Put the kettle on….line and catch up with loved ones via the virtual world
As the nation is on lockdown for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus outbreak, many of us will be missing friends and family.
But all is not lost thanks to the international children’s charity, Smile Train.
The organisation is launching an exciting new initiative to help lift the country’s spirits, keep people connected, and spread smiles at a time when we need them most.
On Wednesday 1st April, the charity is taking traditional tea party’s to a whole new dimension by encouraging people across the country to take part in the UK’s first nationwide virtual tea party – The Big Virtual Cuppa.
Whether people choose to Facetime close relatives, schedule an afternoon ‘time out’ video conference with colleagues, or gather their household together for a much needed tea break, at ‘teatime’ on Wednesday (between 3pm-6pm) Smile Train is encouraging everyone across the UK to tune into The Big Virtual Cuppa – by switching on their mobile devices, boiling the kettle, enjoying a slice of their favourite cake and having a ‘good old natter’ with the people they love.
Ian Vallance, director of fundraising, Smile Train UK, says: “In light of the unprecedented and challenging times we are currently facing as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, many of us are unable to host a ‘traditional’ tea parties with our close neighbours, family and friends at home.
The Big Virtual Cuppa is a brilliant opportunity for friends and families who can’t be together, to grab their phones, laptops or iPads and have a catch up over a steaming cup of tea and a delicious slice of cake, whilst raising money for children in need.
To-date, Smile Train has supported more than 1.5 million cleft surgeries. The funds we receive from our Big Virtual Cuppa campaign will enable us to continue our vital work and create even more smiles in the years to come.”
We think this a wonderful idea and will certainly bridge the gap until we can finally give those we love a huge hug once again!
